HALIFAX, Nova Scotia — British rock star Sting surprised Christmas shoppers in downtown Halifax during an unexpected stop in the Nova Scotia capital.
Sting, whose real name is Gordon Sumner, made the rounds through a shopping mall after his girlfriend, Trudie Styler, was admitted to the Halifax Infirmary last week.
A hospital spokesman would only say that Styler was admitted to the gynecology ward.
“As far as I know, there isn’t anything wrong with her,” said Jim Monaco, a publicity director for A&M; Records. “She just ended up going there out of routine.”
Styler and Sting, former lead singer of The Police, were flying from New York to London to go home for Christmas. A Halifax International Airport spokesman said a woman was taken from a British Airways jet Thursday morning and rushed to the hospital.
David Porter, the Atlantic region’s representative for A&M;, said Sting had to stop “in here for a few hours. I talked to him and everything’s OK.”
