Sony Corp. of America agreed to pay the federal government $1.75 million to compensate for inflated bills for electronic equipment sold to government agencies, the U.S. attorney’s office said. The Park Ridge, N.J.-based company found from examination of its books and records that the General Services Administration had been overpaying for video and audio equipment, U.S. Atty. Thomas Greelish said, and the firm then notified the government of the overcharge.
