Local News in Brief : Fillmore Man Killed as Car Hits Center Divider

A 31-year-old Fillmore man died Friday when his car crashed into the center divider of the Golden State Freeway near Val Verde, authorities said. Eugene M. Nunez was northbound near the Hasley Canyon Road turnoff when his car, moving about 70 m.p.h., veered to the left and hit the divider, California Highway Patrol Officer Lujuanna Lopez said. Nunez who was not wearing a seat belt, suffered massive head injuries when he struck the front windshield. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:01 a.m., she said.
