Rap music star Kurtis Blow, 23, brought 500 Washington high school students to their feet, screaming “No, No” on Thursday as he taped a federally financed, anti-drug music video called “Ya Gotta Say No.” The song features back-up vocals by five students from the capital’s Duke Ellington High School for the Performing Arts. Blow was recruited by music producer Hal Lion to get the anti-drug message across in a song and video being sent to radio and television stations around the country. Funds for the video were provided by ACTION, the federal agency that supervises volunteer efforts.
