Astros’ Doran Loses, Will Be Paid $625,000

HOUSTON — An arbiter has ruled in favor of the Houston Astros in the salary arbitration case of second baseman Bill Doran, team officials said Saturday night.

Doran had sought $825,000 for the 1987 season, but the club offered $625,000. The ruling by arbiter Ray Goetz means Doran will be paid the salary offered by the club.

Doran, 28, who has been with the Astros since 1982, was paid $550,000 in 1986.
