Black leaders urged parents in Senatobia, Miss., to end a monthlong school boycott today after officials agreed to hire two black administrators. But protesters planned to continue an economic boycott that started Feb. 27 until the proposed changes to correct alleged discrimination in the district are “put in writing,” a spokesman for the black group said. About 350 parents voted to send their children back to school for the first time since Feb. 17. The hiring of a white assistant superintendent sparked the school boycott after blacks said school officials reneged on a promise to hire a black.
