The costliest and most partisan race in recent memory was drawing to a close as voters in Dallas decided between Annette Strauss and Fred Meyer in a mayoral runoff. In the April 4 election, in which none of the seven candidates won more than 50% of the vote, Strauss, the mayor pro tem, who is vying to become the city’s first elected female mayor, took 43% of the vote, while Meyer, former head of the Dallas County Republican Party, won 26%. Neither candidate is running under a party label. More than $3.5 million was spent by all seven candidates in the race to replace Starke Taylor.
