Santa Monica : Bronze Plaque for Carrousel

The city has applied to the National Register of Historic Places for a bronze plaque identifying the Santa Monica Pier Carrousel building as a national historic landmark.
The two-story building, built by amusement park king Charles Looff in 1916, was designated as a landmark by the National Park Service in September. It now houses a 46-horse, two-chariot, hand-carved merry-go-round, which is open to the public on Saturdays and Sundays between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Beginning May 23, the carrousel will be open Tuesday through Sunday between 10 a.m. and 9 p.m.
