Austria accused the United States of breaking international law over the expulsion of former Nazi war-camp guard Martin Bartesch and charged that he never made a secret of his past when trying to gain a U.S. visa. Interior Minister Karl Blecha also reaffirmed Austria’s intention to send Bartesch back as an undesirable alien. Blecha said Washington had revoked Bartesch’s citizenship while still allowing him to travel on a U.S. passport and had failed to give Vienna notice of his expulsion. Government officials said Bartesch, 60, could be expelled in the next few days.
