After a three-month shutdown, the Southwest Museum has reopened its Casa de Adobe annex in Highland Park. The Casa, built in 1918, is a re-creation of a pre-1850s Mexican California ranch house. The Latino folk and decorative arts from the Southwest Museum that fill its family chapel, kitchen, dining room, parlor and bedrooms illustrate Mexican California life from the early 1800s. “We have been determined to open up the Casa and we got some start-up money from a (Southwest Museum) trustee that will enable us to keep it open for July and August,” said Carol Selkin, a spokeswoman for the museum, which had been closed since March. Museum officials are optimistic that they will raise additional funds to keep the Casa open permanently, Selkin added. The Casa will be open Tuesday through Sunday, and admission is free.
