San Diego-Coronado Ferry Back in Business

SAN DIEGO — After an 18-year hiatus, the return of ferry service between San Diego and Coronado was launched Wednesday.
The ferry, which was discontinued in 1969 after the opening of the San Diego-Coronado Bay Bridge, is back plying the bay’s waters because the bonds sold to construct the bridge have been repaid.
One of the two boats being used is the Silvergate, built in 1940 and part of the original ferry fleet.
