Despite Vow to Quit, Rodino to Run Again

WASHINGTON — House Judiciary Committee Chairman Peter W. Rodino Jr. appears to have scrapped his pledge to leave Congress at the end of his term and support a minority candidate to succeed him.
The New Jersey Democrat said he is preparing to run next year for what would be a 21st term in the House and has scheduled a $500-per-person fund-raiser in Washington today.
Rodino is 78. Last year, he said: “When Reagan goes, I will go.”
President Reagan’s second term expires in 1989, and he is constitutionally prohibited from being reelected President.
