2 Die in Scotland Crash of U.S. Air Force F-111

LONDON — A U.S. Air Force F-111 bomber crashed Tuesday during a low-level training flight in Scotland, killing both crewmen and missing a row of cottages by a quarter-mile, authorities said.
The name of the pilot was with-held pending notification of relatives, but the Air Force identified the weapons-system operator as Capt. Phillip D. Baldwin, 32, of Kansas City, Mo.
The second crash in Britain this year of supersonic, swing-wing F-111 gouged a deep scar into a field a quarter-mile from a row of cottages outside the village of Lauder, about 30 miles from Edinburgh. The cause of the crash was not immediately known.
