Having scored a 1986 comeback hit with his cameo fret-grinding on the Art of Noise’s remake of “Peter Gunn,” this vintage riffslinger returns with an all-instrumental LP that showcases his distinctive twangy guitar style in a variety of settings courtesy of such heavy friends as Paul McCartney, Jeff Lynne, Ry Cooder and the Art of Noise, all of whom produced at least one song here. Eddy’s own production, “Kickin’ Asphalt,” a four-way bar-fight between six-string legends James Burton, Steve Cropper, John Fogerty and the Ol’ Twangmaster himself, provides the most incendiary moments on an album where the titles (“Spies,” “The Trembler,” “Los Campaneros,” “Theme for Something Really Important”) tell all.
