Canada’s Striking Railway Workers Go Back to Jobs

OTTAWA — Canada’s freight trains were running again Saturday after federal legislation ended a five-day-old strike by 48,000 railway workers.
Both Canadian National and Canadian Pacific railways said trains were running in most areas and that full service would resume today. Via Rail said the nation’s passenger service would resume Monday.
Parliament on Friday passed the legislation, which calls for binding arbitration of the contract dispute and stipulates heavy fines for those defying the back-to-work law.
