Compass on Titanic Uncovered

United Press International

Divers have recovered the compass and other equipment from the luxury liner Titanic two miles under the North Atlantic, a spokesman for a French-American exploration team said today.

The three-man crew of the French-made mini-submarine Nautile also identified and cleaned the nameplate on the port side of the wreckage during a nearly five-hour dive Monday. Daniel Puget of Taurus International, a consultant to the expedition, said the team would not attempt to raise the Renault 12 automobile belonging to American millionaire John Jacob Astor, who died in the sinking.
