Beverly Hills : Ban on Drive-Ins Extended

The City Council on Tuesday voted unanimously to extend for another 10 months a temporary ordinance restricting construction of drive-ins in the city.
The extension means that the owners of a proposed Dolores Drive-In restaurant at Olympic Boulevard and La Peer Drive will not get approval for a drive-in on the property unless they can prove that it will not significantly increase traffic, noise, lighting and smog in the area.
A homeowner group, Concerned Residents of Southeast Beverly Hills, complained to the council in July that the drive-in would bring traffic, drug dealers and noisy teen-agers into their neighborhood. The council responded by passing a 45-day temporary ordinance restricting drive-ins. That ordinance was extended again Tuesday until city planners come up with a permanent law.
