Cunliffe Files for Retirement as ‘Contingency Plan’

Sylvia Cunliffe, accused of misconduct as general manager of the Los Angeles City Department of General Services, has filed a retirement application as “a contingency plan” in the event she leaves her $90,243-a-year job.
Cunliffe, who is eligible to retire with full benefits in October after 30 years as a city employee, said she still intends to fight charges of mismanagement and other allegations against her but wanted her application on file with the City Employees’ Retirement System as a precautionary measure.
Earlier, Cunliffe filed a stress claim with the state Workers’ Compensation Appeals Board. She is awaiting word on whether Mayor Tom Bradley will propose disciplinary action against her for a range of alleged improprieties including favors for friends and relatives.
