LAPD Commander Glenn Levant Named Deputy Chief

Glenn A. Levant, a 24-year veteran of the Los Angeles Police Department, has been promoted to deputy chief, replacing Barry M. Wade, who retired in August.
Levant, 46, has commanded the Police Department’s Bureau of Special Investigations for the last two years. The bureau includes the LAPD’s administrative vice squad, public affairs section and the Drug Abuse Resistance and Education (DARE) program.
He will continue to command the Special Investigations Bureau, as well as the Organized Crime Intelligence Division and the Internal Affairs section.
One of seven deputy or assistant chiefs, Levant was selected from a pool of eligible commanders by Chief Daryl F. Gates. Wade, after retiring, accepted a security job with the Southern California Gas Co.
