Ineligible Player Costs Muir Berth in Playoffs

Muir High School in Pasadena has forfeited its first eight football victories because of the use of an ineligible player, dropping the Mustangs, one of the top teams in the Coastal Conference, out of the playoffs.

Muir, the two-time defending conference champion, had compiled an 8-1 record. The record was changed to 0-9 after it was discovered that an error by a school administrator had allowed a transfer to play without proper clearance. The student, an unnamed starter, would have been eligible if proper paper work had been completed at Muir before the season, a Southern Section source said. Muir improved to 1-9 by beating cross-town rival Pasadena, 14-9, Saturday night.

Playoff pairings will be announce today in Cerritos, with the first round Friday
