Old-Fashioned Christmas at Los Encinos

Families can enjoy an old-fashioned Christmas this Sunday in authentic 19th-Century fashion at Los Encinos State Historic Park in Encino, where docents in period costume will assume the roles of early ranchero settlers.
A German immigrant will demonstrate how to make plum pudding, doling out samples for all. A Santa Barbara editor will pass out copies of his fledgling newspaper, and two old-time party lovers will show everyone how to dance the Virginia Reel. A century ago, Los Encinos, once part of a sheep ranch, will offer sheepshearing and wool-spining demonstrations.
Children can make 19th-Century Christmas decorations such as paper chains, snow flakes and pomander balls. At another table, they can learn how to make puppets from tongue depressors. A military band in 1870s uniforms will entertain on the lawn.
