More TV Film Critics

Goldstein’s savaging of TV film critics sidestepped the most critical question: How many of these overpaid talking heads have credentials to justify what they do?

Have they been to film school, or even studied film at a reputable university? Have they written film criticism for any national film magazines or newspapers?

While I have great disdain for the “critic-as-superstar” mentality that seems to have Hollywood in its grip, I can make allowances for TV film critics who hail from a journalistic background--Siskel & Ebert for instance.

Considering the low nutritional content of the majority of these fast-food reporters’ broadcasts, however, I think it is a shame that studios--and, apparently, viewers--give so much credence to their opinions.
