Top Prep Running Back Going to UCLA

SPRING, Texas — Running back Kevin Williams, considered the nation’s top running back prospect, said Friday he will attend UCLA.

Williams said he selected the Bruins over Texas, Texas A&M; and Oklahoma.

“Every school showed me a good time,” Williams said. “The coaches were all great, but I think for the next four or five years . . . I pledged to UCLA.

“I felt very comfortable there. I related to the players and the coaches were nice, and I think I’d like the campus life style.”

Williams rushed for 3,561 yards and 37 touchdowns in three seasons at Spring High School, but his team had a combined record of 4-16 in one of the toughest districts in the state.

The 6-foot-2, 196-pound Williams said he made his decision Thursday night and the three other schools finished in a “three-way tie.”

Williams also has a 90.46 grade point average and said that was a factor “because coaches know I have talent and they won’t worry about me going to classes.”
