More Judges Indicted in Chicago

CHICAGO — The government announced federal grand jury indictments today against seven people, including current and former Cook County judges, bringing to 87 the number of people charged in the Operation Greylord corruption inquiry.
The newest charges in the investigation of the nation’s largest local court system target Judge John J. McDonnell, 52, and retired Judge Francis J. Maher Sr., 73. They are accused of accepting cash bribes from lawyers to fix misdemeanor cases. Others indicted include a Cook County deputy sheriff, a court clerk, a police officer and two attorneys.
