Summit Recognizes Need for Solution, Arafat Says

EAST BERLIN — Palestine Liberation Organization leader Yasser Arafat said Tuesday that the six-month Palestinian uprising in Israeli-occupied lands had forced leaders at the Toronto economic summit to recognize the need for a swift solution.
In Toronto, the summit leaders said in a summary of their talks on the Middle East: “The current violence in the occupied territories is a clear sign that the status quo is not sustainable.”
