Local News in Brief : Countywide : OCTC Executive Given Pay Raise to $103,144

The chief executive of Orange County’s Transportation Commission Monday became one of the highest-paid public employees in the state.
The Transportation Commission board voted to raise 40-year-old Stan Oftelie’s annual salary to $103,144, an increase of 11.4% over the $92,604 he is paid now. Under the new contract, Oftelie will be paid more than Gov. George Deukmejian, whose salary is $85,000.
Oftelie’s new contract, which takes effect July 1, runs through 1992. He was hired in October, 1983, as executive director of the Transportation Commission at an annual salary of $50,004. His contracts have included automatic cost-of-living increases, plus the chance for performance bonuses.
Monday’s vote granted Oftelie the maximum 7% performance bonus.
The Transportation Commission oversees all public spending on transportation in Orange County.
