Former Colombian presidential candidate Alvaro Gomez Hurtado, kidnaped by leftist guerrillas, was freed after 53 days in captivity, Radio Caracol reported. It said he appeared to be unharmed. Gomez Hurtado, 69, a former ambassador to the United States, was kidnaped May 29 by four men armed with submachine guns. The leftist guerrilla group M-19 claimed responsibility. Gomez Hurtado, son of former President Laureano Gomez, was a presidential candidate for the Conservative Party in the 1986 elections, losing to President Virgilio Barco Vargas of the Liberal Party.
