Collins Wins Speedway Scratch Main Event

Phil Collins of Newport Beach won the four-lap scratch main event in Friday night’s speedway racing before a crowd of 4,205 fans at the Orange County fairgrounds.

Collins defeated Gary Hicks of Glen Avon, Alan Christian of Alta Murrietta and Steve Lucero of Riverside.

Trinon Cirello of Newport Beach won the eight-lap handicap main over Keith Larson of Long Beach and Scott Brown of Chino. Jim Fishbeck of Fontana was fourth, Bernie Tusko of Cypress fifth and Brad Oxley of San Clemente sixth. Christian and Tuff McBride rounded out the field.

Eddie Ingels of Monrovia won the four-lap featured match race over Bart Bast of Chino.

The five-lap second-division main was won by Bobby Cody of Dana Point. Alex Mansfield of Fullerton won the four-lap third-division main.
