Du Pont Co. profit jumped 27% in the second quarter to $639 million, the Wilmington, Del.-based chemical giant announced. Sales were up 9% from a year ago. The company credited the results to $43 million gained from the sale of an interest in a North Sea oil property and strong sales in agricultural and industrial chemicals, fibers, polymer products, downstream petroleum and coal.
