Strike Quotes

Brian Walton of the Writer’s Guild of America is quoted as saying that I reported that the writers strike would be “over in 36 hours” (Aug. 4).

Referring to a wire service story, I said in fact that there were indications that Walton told dissident writers “. . . give me till Wednesday.”

Walton is also quoted as saying that “The reporter didn’t bother to check it with me.” In fact, Walton was not available and a WGA spokeswoman told me she would not comment on the report carried by the wires.

As it turned out, the settlement was announced in 36 hours, but I’m afraid I can’t take credit for having that good a crystal ball.
