CAMPAIGN ’88 : Race Too Close to Call

Most key states are too close to call in the race for President, according to a new study of electoral votes by the Field Institute.
The state-by-state study shows Dukakis has lost the lead in projected electoral votes that a similar survey gave him a month ago and now slightly trails George Bush.
“Perhaps the significant finding from the current state-by-state poll roundup is that only in two of the big-eight electoral vote states, New York and Florida, does one or the other candidate have a clear and significant lead,” the study said.
In New York, with 36 electoral votes, Dukakis has a lead of between 5 and 10 points in several published polls. Bush holds a commanding lead of from 12 to 19 points in Florida.
