Sharing Martinez With Rest of World

A slight twinge of indignation struck me as I read Al Martinez’s article. (Times, Sept. 1). He’s leaving the Westside and going “downtown.” Ouch, our very own peripatetic neighbor, our buddy who mingles with and awes in wonder at the people and places we see and experience every day, is leaving us for the great unknown.

Aw well, I guess the day would come when we would have to share Al with the rest of the world. How lucky for them. I soothe my bruised Westside pride by saying we aren’t losing our friend, we’re just gaining more fellow admirers of one of the most special and endearing human beings alive.
