The State : Small Quakes Jar Foothills

A series of earthquakes, the largest measuring at magnitude 4.1, jiggled the Mojave Desert about 150 miles north of Los Angeles but apparently caused no serious damage or injuries. The quakes were centered about 12 miles east of the Inyo County community of Little Lake, at the edge of the Sierra Nevada foothills. The 4.1 quake was followed by a “couple dozen” lesser shocks, including one measuring 3.4, said Robert Finn, spokesman for Caltech. The quakes were clustered in a sparsely populated area known for “fairly intense swarms of earthquakes,” said Finn.
