Roger Stein, the thoroughbred trainer who was suspended by the California Horse Racing Board after one of his horses tested positive for cocaine, was granted a 90-day stay by Superior Court in Los Angeles.

Stein was suspended for 6 months, fined $2,000 and put on probation until the end of next year by the CHRB when his horse, Emperor’s Turn, tested positive for cocaine after finishing second in a race at Oak Tree Oct. 23. Stein was previously denied a stay by the CHRB.

A spokesman for the CHRB said that it has yet to receive the results of a sample of the drug test, which was sent to two independent laboratories to corroborate the original test.
