The people of Memphis, Tenn., apparently feel their Southern hospitality has been bruised by reports that native Cybill Shepherd has been rejected by one of the city’s tonier Mississippi River-side co-ops. “I want to encourage you to come home,” said Memphis Mayor Dick Hackett in a telegram to the “Moonlighting” star. After a follow-up phone call, Hackett added: “I’m convinced she’ll be coming home.” Should Shepherd still demur, the Memphis City Council passed a resolution honoring Shepherd for her public service and proclaiming that Memphis is proud to claim her as a native. Furthermore, the board of directors of Chickasaw Bluffs, another posh development, voted to welcome Shepherd there. A spokesman for Shepherd said she was touched by the outpouring of support but still has not decided whether to try to buy another home in the city.
