STATE : Killer’s Death Sentence Overturned

From Times wire services

The state Supreme Court today unanimously reversed the death sentence of a San Bernardino County man for the 1979 murder and robbery of a Yucca Valley couple.

The court upheld the murder convictions of Richard William Garrison but overturned his death sentence because jurors were told by the trial judge that if they recommended a sentence of life without parole, the alternative to the death penalty, the governor could make Garrison eligible for parole.
