The Coast Guard worked with private shippers to avert threatened disaster in Alaska waters following three separate mishaps involving vessels carrying oil, diesel fuel and chemicals. No detectable environmental damage has occurred, but Coast Guard spokesman Chris Haley in Juneau said officials were concerned about the three vessels and were closely monitoring efforts to prevent major spills while containing a minor one.
