Helena Sukova ended 18 months without an individual victory by beating Brenda Schultz of the Netherlands, 7-6, 7-6, to win a $150,000 women’s tennis tournament at Brisbane, Australia.

Sukova last won a tournament in 1987, but within the last month led Czechoslovakia to victory in the Federation Cup in Melbourne and teamed with Miloslav Mecir to win the Hopman Cup in Perth.
