Motion Picture Assn. of America President Jack Valenti and a dozen other entertainment industry figures have been named to a new National Film Preservation Board. Created by Congress last year, the group each year will recommend to the Librarian of Congress as many as 25 “culturally significant” films for inclusion in the National Film Registry. The group can also demand that disclaimers be made if films have been colorized or “materially altered.” Other members are Roddy McDowall of the Screen Actors Guild, George Kirgo of the Writers Guild of America, Franklin Schaffner of the Directors Guild of America and Fay Kanin of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. They will meet Jan. 25 in Washington.
