Local News in Brief : Suspect Sought in Boy’s Slaying

Long Beach Police were seeking a suspect Wednesday in what was classified as the gang-related killing of a 13-year-old boy and the wounding of four men at a park.

Hugo Casian, a student at Franklin Junior High School, died shortly after he was shot in the chest at 9 p.m. Tuesday at MacArthur Park on Anaheim Street. His four companions, ages 19 to 25, were wounded.

Detective Logan Wren said a man in a metallic brown 1975 Toyota fired the shots from about 200 feet away as the five talked in the park, which is a known gathering place for gang members. Police would not say whether the dead youth was a gang member.
