Actor Carroll O’Connor was reported in “very good” shape Sunday, a day after he underwent coronary bypass surgery Saturday at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta. Hospital spokeswoman Judy Smith said O’Connor, star of the television series “In the Heat of the Night” and best known for his role as Archie Bunker in the 1970s series “All in the Family,” underwent a four-hour procedure in which surgeons grafted six arteries around his heart to replace existing clogged blood vessels. Smith said O’Connor, 64, would remain in intensive care for about three days.
