MEXICO CITY — A clandestine shipment of 8,000 turtle eggs was seized by police during a roadside spot check of a passenger bus in the southern state of Oaxaca, the government newspaper El Nacional reported Monday.
A wide variety of turtles are on Mexico’s list of endangered species, and dealing in their eggs is prohibited by law. But the eggs--considered a delicacy by many Mexicans--are collected, bought and sold clandestinely throughout the country.
