General Electric Co.: The Fairfield, Conn.-based company reported first-quarter profit of $849 million, up 17% over a year ago. Revenue rose 13% to $12 billion. The results were credited in part to gains at its TV network NBC, GE Financial Services, in plastics and in aircraft engines.
