UCI Tennis Team Is Fourth-Ranked

The UC Irvine men’s tennis team has been ranked No. 4 along with South Carolina and Texas Christian in the final Volvo Tennis/Collegiate Rankings for 1989.
National Collegiate Athletic Assn. champion Stanford received all first-place votes to be ranked No. 1. UCLA is No. 2 and Georgia No. 3.
Irvine, which finished 25-7, advanced to the NCAA championships for the third consecutive year and lost to Georgia (21-6) in the quarterfinals.
The Anteaters also had two top-10 singles players. Senior Mark Kaplan, who had a 35-7 record, ranks fifth nationally, and junior Trevor Kronemann (34-16) is No. 10. Sophomore Mike Briggs (27-13) is No. 62.
In doubles, Briggs and Kronemann (22-8) are ranked No. 7.
