P.M. BRIEFING : Parts Delays to Idle 2 Ford Plants

From Times wire services

Ford Motor Co. announced today that its Atlanta and Chicago assembly plants will be idle during the week of July 17 as a result of component delays.

The Chicago plant has about 2,300 hourly employees on two shifts while the Atlanta plant has about 2,150 hourly employees, also on two shifts. Both plants build the mid-sized Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable and produce a total of about 10,500 cars a week. A Ford spokesman said both plants also will be closed during the first two weeks in July as part of a regularly scheduled vacation period.
