Countywide : Funds Being Sought for Telecommuting Center

Riverside officials are seeking state funding for an experimental telecommuting work center for employees of several private companies in Orange County, Riverside’s transportation chief said this week.
Jack Reagan, executive director of the Riverside Transportation Commission, said the work center would be in the Riverside-Corona area and would allow company employees to use computers and fax machines there instead of driving on the Riverside Freeway to offices in Orange County.
“We’re very interested in this as a way to relieve traffic congestion and meet air quality goals,” Reagan said.
Assemblyman Steve Clute (D-Riverside) has introduced a bill that would provide $100,000 in state funds for the telecommuting experiment. The bill is before the Assembly Transportation Committee.
No Orange County firms have been identified as participants in the project, Reagan said. A search for companies is being conducted in part by officials of Pacific Bell in Orange. Pacific Bell, among other companies, markets telecommuting services.
