WORLD : Angola Says Rebels Downed Plane

LUANDA, Angola — The government news agency ANGOP claimed today that rebels shot down a military transport plane with 48 aboard, killing 42.
Spokesmen for the rebels in Washington and the U.S. State Department said they had heard no word of the reported Sunday attack, and the claim could not be independently verified.
