The late Roy Orbison will be honored by the people of Wink, Tex., the small town in which he grew up, with a memorial concert and barbecue Aug. 26. Dennis Grubb, a longtime Orbison friend who organized the event, said that proceeds from the day will go toward commissioning a bronze statue of the singer, who was experiencing his greatest success since the early ‘60s, thanks to his participation in the Traveling Wilburys, when he died of a heart attack last December. Among the performers at the tribute will be Orbison impersonator Kenny Morrill, a regular in the Las Vegas “Legends in Concert,” and surviving members of Orbison’s early groups the Wink Westerners and the Teen Kings.
