Quiksilver Inc., Newport Beach, posted net income for the quarter ended July 31 of $1.9 million, more than double the $906,000 reported for the like period last year. Sales for the third fiscal quarter rose 56%, to $19.3 million from $12.4 million. Net income for the first nine months of fiscal 1989 increased 75%, to $5.4 million from $3.1 million a year ago. Sales increased 49%, to $54.8 million from $36.9 million.

Quiksilver designs, arranges the manufacture and distributes beachwear, skiwear and casual sportswear primarily for men and boys.

John C. Warner, chief executive, said Quiksilver’s record financial performance through the first nine months of fiscal 1989 was primarily the result of continued demand and lower selling, general and administrative expenses as a percentage of sales.
