LOCAL : City Urged to Post Slaying Reward

Los Angeles City Councilwoman Joy Picus this morning asked the City Council to offer a $15,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the killers of Jerry Weber, an Encino man who was shot to death last week after making a withdrawal at a bank’s automatic teller machine.
The motion introduced by Picus will be voted on next Tuesday.
Weber, 49, a prominent official of the Jewish Federation Council of Greater Los Angeles, was shot early Aug. 22 while sitting in his car after withdrawing $40 from an automatic teller at a Wells Fargo Bank near the corner of Sepulveda and National boulevards in West Los Angeles.
Police said the shooting was a botched robbery attempt. No money was taken, and the unidentified gunman and an accomplice escaped in a car. Weber’s wife, Sally, who was sitting next to him in the car, was not injured.
